When I was a young mother, I suffered from so many painful emotions you can't imagine...
Shame,
Failure,
Guilt,
Fear,
Overwhelm,
Powerlessness,
Sadness,
Disappointment,
Loneliness,
Trapped,
Devalued,
Judged...
Feeling like the SHITTIEST MOTHER on the planet...
.
This rollercoaster of emotions pushed me into Anxiety, Depression, and horrific Anger... :(
But, when looked up my problems on the internet, there were only TWO options for how I was supposed to be feeling:
1. Blissful in motherhood
2. Suffering from a Mental Disorder (a hormonal or chemical imbalance in my brain)
Well... I didn't have either...
I didn't feel chemically or hormonally imbalanced... I felt like I was FAILING LIFE itself... :(
Almost all of the mothers I was meeting were also being treated for depression and anxiety.
I was like, "What on earth is going on?"
.
And then finally I realized... A lot of this misery around me seemed to be caused by SOCIETY...
Society was making us feel painful emotions... like Guilt, Shame, and Fear...
And these emotions seemed to be morphing into Depression, Anxiety, and Anger... :(
So, I read as much sociology, psychology, and anthropology of motherhood as I possibly could...
What societal beliefs and expectations were making me feel such painful emotions... and where did the solutions lie?
I figured out the Societal Causes to my Guilts, Shames, and Fears... and I freed myself from them.
And this finally enabled me to overcome my Anxiety, Depression, and Anger of motherhood... and find happiness again! <3
.
If you have been feeling a horrible rollercoaster of emotions in motherhood, it is not your fault.
We live in a society that is really hard on mothers...
And you are not alone. <3
