LETTING OUR HEARTS LEAD THE WAY
When I was a young mother, I was told that mothers should play all these roles with their kids...
I SHOULD be my children's
teacher,
speech therapist,
psychologist,
child development specialist,
playmate,
entertainer,
librarian,
social convenor,
extracurricular activity planner...
One day, I had enough, and I said, "I just want to have a RELATIONSHIP with my kids! Why can't I just focus on THAT?!"
I started shedding myself of all the extraneous "roles", and started to truly have FUN with my kids!
In the same rebellious fashion, I tossed out the bedtime story, and I found myself telling funny spontaneous bedtime stories to my kids...
These stories were super FUN for me because I could use my imagination, my sense of adventure, my sense of humour...
And much to my surprise, in the middle of the story I found myself becoming my child's TEACHER! I started teaching them about...
animals,
evolution,
"the birds and the bees",
babies,
nutrition,
money...
And I found myself becoming my child's PSYCHOLOGIST... I started helping the main character regulate emotions that were strikingly similar to those of my son... ;)
And I thought... "Wow... I am playing the ROLES... without any effort at all..."
Of course I was...
When we are allowed to focus on the mother-child RELATIONSHIP... everything else follows naturally...
We can throw out the rule book... and let our HEARTS lead.
Our hearts have a whole lot of wisdom...
All we have to do is trust it! <3
